Supplements: BCAA

This supplement is possibly one of the most important ones in my opinion. I currently take this in capsule form but you can also get it in a powder to mix with water.

BCAA helps the body to metabolize carbohydrates, fats and proteins and it also helps in tissue formation. BCAA contain the essential amino acids L-Leucine, L-Valine and L-Isoleucine which contribute to building and repairing muscle and body tissues.

This supplement can be taken either before, during or after your workout. I choose to take mine immediately after I finish and I have been getting great results! Remember that this isn’t a magic pill that will make you grow muscle, it just assists you when you put the work in to get the results that you’re looking for.

The sells for around 21.19 Canadian for a 240 capsule  bottle which will last you around a month and roughly the same for the powder. Not the cheapest stuff but well worth it in my opinion!

Managing Food Intake

Managing food intake is a very important part of being healthy and achieving your fitness goals. In theory it’s very simple to do, just eat appropriate amounts of food and don’t eat unhealthy junk food. It sounds easy but sometimes it’s hard not to give into temptation.

Most of controlling the amount of food that we eat is about controlling our minds. For me, I find it’s best to keep track of what I’m eating throughout the day so that way I actually have to think about what I’m eating and the amount of calories that I’m putting into my body. I use an app called My Fitness Pal to track my food intake but for you, it could be as simple as writing down what you eat in a notebook. Also apps like this one will tell you the amount that you can eat to achieve the goals that you set which is a nice feature.

Temptation is a hard one to handle because sometimes I can’t even resist myself but there is a few things I’ve learned:

  • First of all, get rid of all the junky food that you have at home. if you don’t have it, you can’t eat it.
  • Allow yourself a treat occasionally so that way when you do have the opportunity to eat something bad, you don’t go overboard.
  • Avoid fast food and cook as many of your own meals as possible. This way you know exactly what is in them.
  • When you have no choice on what to eat (like at a business dinner or family get-together) just use moderation and make sure to keep track of what you’re eating. Try and pick whatever is the healthiest choice available.

Remember, we’re human and we’re not perfect so don’t freak out when you cheat. Just do your best to lesson them damage by eating healthy as much as you can!

Supplements: Fat Burners

Once you start getting seriously into fitness and exercising, you start looking for supplements that will help you improve and reach your fitness goals. One of the supplements that I’m taking currently is CLA 1000 from Evlution Nutrition.

First off this supplement is categorized as a fat burner. That doesn’t mean that it’s magical and will make you lose weight just by taking it. It supports you by acting as a hunger suppressant and supporting your metabolic rate and should be combined with exercise and good eating habits.

CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) is a natural trans-fat supplement as it occurs naturally in meat and dairy. This does not mean that you should take this long term though. Your body will eventually adapt to the supplement and negate its effects over time. Currently I’m only taking it for a two month period to support me during my training to tone my core and assist me with getting rid of a bit of fat that I have around my stomach.

The cost per bottle is around 13.99 Canadian and a bottle will last you a month because you take one at every meal. Also be aware that fat burners don’t work the same for everyone. They may work really well for some and not at all for others so don’t go out and buy a whole bunch just to find out that it doesn’t do anything for you.

Blog Update

I just wanted to take a moment and welcome everyone who has come to check out my blog and decided that they want to stick around. I really appreciate it and I’m glad you guys are all interested in what I have to say.

A couple of things I want to touch on:

  • I recently bought my domian name as some of you may have noticed so I am for sure sticking around since I’ve invested some money in this now.

Shin Splints Update

A couple of weeks ago I talked about how I was struggling with shin splints and how frustrating it was because I really like running. I’m happy to say that I’ve been doing my stretches and icing my shins and they’re now fully healed and I actually went for my first run yesterday which was great! I did my stretches afterwards and I have no pain today! I’m really happy with how I feel and I’m super excited to get back into frequent running!

Bonus Workout

I’m sure we all have workout schedules that we like to stick to but sometimes some of the best workouts are the ones you don’t plan.

I generally take Sunday’s off to relax and rest my body but I was sitting around doing nothing (which I know is nice sometimes) and was bored out of my mind so I decided to go to the gym and didn’t stick to any particular routine. I just worked on what I felt like I wanted to work on and it was great! I enjoyed it so much that I might even start making a habit of hitting the gym on Sunday’s a little more often!

Nature Valley Rosted Nut Crunch Bars

Recently I’ve been looking for a snack that’s healthy but also really tasty that I could carry with me easily to class or on other outings and I came across these really tasty granola bars. I highly recommend them.NV_Roasted_Nut_Bars_Peanut_Crunch

The only downfall with these is that they’re rather expensive. There are only 6 in a box and the box cost $5.99 Canadian. I decided to try them because they were on sale the other day and now I almost wish I hadn’t because they’re so good! One thing to be wary of is the amount of fat that these contain. It’s not an everyday treat but is nice on occasion.
