Greenhouse Project: Foundation

Now that the weather is a little bit warmer, we decided to get started on the greenhouse today. We started by creating a foundation which we did by digging a trench around where the perimeter of the greenhouse is going to be and put 6″x6″s in the ground, connected it together and backfilled around them. The greenhouse is going to be 8’x12′ when completed. Some pictures below:

More to come when we begin construction in the coming week!

Growing Your Own Food

Having a healthy lifestyle isn’t always about just eating the right things and getting enough exercise, at least not for me. There are a lot of things like preservatives in packaged foods to make them last longer that are simply not good for the body. Many have been shown to cause things like cancer. I know it’s not always an option but since I still live at home during the summer when I’m not in university, I plan on trying to grow some of my own food.

Now I’m pretty lucky because my grandfather owns a farm where he naturally raises cattle on the land and he butchers them himself so that solves my meat problem but I plan to also grow lots of organic, GMO free vegetables in the hopes of eating healthier. When it comes time to plant in a few short weeks I’ll make some more posts with pictures and show everyone what I’m doing.

I know what I’m doing isn’t an option for everyone but look a little closer at what you’re eating and maybe try and find alternatives if you can afford it. You won’t regret it!
